hey all
i was wondering if anybody has checked out the farenheit digital rigging dvd... link here:
http://www.fahrenheitdigital.com/dvds/rigging/feature-animation-riggin g-dvd.php
basically i am looking for a good rigging dvd. mr. meade warned me off of the gnomon ones, and the cgtoolkit dvds have left me... lukewarm. (i'm sorry, but if anybody can get every feature from the art of rigging to work all at once, talk to me, please!)
so if anybody has seen this dvd, what did you think? (or if you can recommend another one, that's good too!) |

| Man. Not sure. I really liked the art of rigging vids...I have to agree though that the spine steps are broken and they lack the big picture walkthrough (i.e. take the user from start to finish). However, I love those guys and they had a big part in teaching mel and WHY to do something rather than just WHAT to do. Ok, enough jibber jabber....if you absolutley want the real deal I would say get yer hands on the Jason Schliefer discs that are shipping soon....Tom and I sat in the classes and those babies are stellar! Seriously, the real deal. Also, there is some good stuf in Eric Miller's Hyper Real Modeling Dvd's that are coming out as well...thats right...modeling. This guys is pretty cool...he likes to get his hands on creature rig shtuff and he has an arm rig that is the cat's meow! LOL. Well, thats all I got. Let me know if you dig anything else up. |

thanks landis! that's a great help.
Don't get me wrong, i really love the Art of Rigging books, i just wish they had the overall picture, like you said. I've learned a lot from those books but my rigs always break! i think it's because i always want to put EVERYTHING into my rig and some of their tricks don't play nicely with others. :) |

Hey speeQr,
I know this may not help you now, but I have both of the Fahrenheit Rigging DVD’s. Rigging for Feature Animation, and Skinning for Feature Animation. I have to say that I found both of these DVD’s very useful. Aaron Holly covers some topics like ribbon spines and other setups that are not covered in the Art of Rigging books.
All in all I found that these DVD’s are worth the cost. I have been saving up for the third DVD Facial rigging as well. I too had Tom Mead for Rigging and found that a lot of his work flow follows the Art of Rigging. So, I think that it is advisable to have both in your arsenal of tools for future reference!
I was wondering if you have seen any of the Hyper Real Creature Anatomy Skinning and Musculature docs. I was thinking I would like to try some of the setups that are covered in these notes. What do you think?
