Man 'O' Man!
Ok. Siggraph is obviously over. I planned to post at the end of every day, however, almost ever single night we all went out for drinks and needless to say I wasnt in any condition to be typing on my blog when I got back to the hotel. LOL. Anyways, my wife, Carrie, Tom, Roger, and myself had a blast nearly every single night. Kristoff, Josh, and Jacob joined us a couple of nights for some slammin' fun and we even got the chance to have some drinks with a couple of rockstars from SCAD (Savannah's art school). Overall great time. The masterclasses were stellar. My brain was on fire after the I.L.M. bi-directional constraint lecture....ouch. Good times...brilliant stuff there...Tom and I were basically speechless after that one. The blender booth was large and in charge and the Autodesk party was amazing. Last but not least the Shanster surpirsed us by flying in to work the Rythm booth...that little bastard. It was monkeys huggin' like crazy. On a lighter note, as f thursday I am officially out of the millitary and am fulltime at GKR on the same day! Pretty cool eh'? Nuthin' like landing a job at what you love to seal the deal with the whole 'official' transition into the civillian life. Well, that about sums up all the festivities. Oh yeah, Anna and I are checkin' out places in the city and we have our hearts set on this one place REALLY close to both of our works so keep your fingers crossed! Finally, keep pokin' your head in for some MAJOR goodies/updates soon. See you in the forum!

Man o Man, look who's back from the dead. What a trip that was, huh? Boston was fantastic, as was going out with the old crew again. Glad to hear about GKR, you deserve it bud. I'll see you in about a month back in good ole' San Fran. Till then, try to stay more regular online, slacker.
wow, you lucky dude, I wish I could have gone to Siggraph too :)
anyway, 2 comments about your animation:
- 1 - you're good, and I like your weights.
- 2 - the run cycle looks more like a fast walk, because the hips are doing what they should do in a walk. as the leg jumps up the weight pulls the hip down - which is cool actually, like a tired run... not a springy one, but just wanted to let you know about this hips issue. and the up and down is also quite minimal, this doesn't work for a run, in my oppinion, ad he should stay in the air a bit more, after the jump. anyway, I like your subtle, naturalistic movement, you've got imagination, even with that cartoon take - I mostly... hate these take-things (default reactions), but yours is among the more interesting ones. definitely fresh.
one final advice and I'm out of here (this would be - 3 -, huh?): try to keep all elements together in one cohesive gesture, it's really hard actually, but it's essential, I think. like in a walk - try to see it as a gesture, and have every element motivated by that gesture. is it a tired walk? then all the body drags and you feel the effects of gravity to the extreme. don't add elements like a fast energetic hand movement without motivating that energy, it's the entire body that would be energetic, not only the hand. but of course, if the character is tired, that energy feels alien. so keep things "in gesture" :)
Wow, that is some fantastic news, Landis. Great luck with the new job, man, your hard work has really paid off, and this is just the begining of the rewards. Hope to see you soon in the future and the best of luck to you and Anna. Lata'
