I Made The Cut!

OHHHHH YEAHHHHH!!! Folks I am on cloud 9 right now! I just found out from my wife that I am one of the happy 12 people who got into the PIXAR 1 class at the Academy! Man I cant tell you how happy I am. Ok...focus....must study....ahhhhh! Man I am a ball of nerves. I am truly lucky. God knows I couldnt have done it without all of the help and support from my loving wife, family, and friends.

In other news, my buddy the Shan-mister ( www.ShannonThomas.info ) just performed a complete overhaul on his site where you can for the first time see the rusty pick-up truck (Ol' Red) from the upcoming WORM short in all it's glory! Thats right! Turntables, beauty shots, occlusion passes, the works! What are you waiting for...GO CHECK IT OUT!

Lastly, Roger has been tearin' it up on the environment like no other. At this point he and I have been working around the clock on breaking up all the data into seprate passes to be rendered (shadow, occlusion, diffuse, specular, depth, alpha. etc.). The tests have been beyond our expectations...its been alot of fun seeing it all come together for the first time. Basically, its just too much to calculate all at once so up until now we have been tackling each element on an indivudal basis defined exclusively by low resolution representations and concept art of the environment itself. This is good because it forced us to concentrate on the core elements of the short (composition issues, basic editing, timing of the short, etc.). Now that all detailed versions of each component (rocks, grass, cat tails, dandy lions, truck, tree, tree branches, tree leaves, etc.) are complete its just a matter of putting all of the pieces together. Anyways, keep checking in...I will definately be keeping you all posted.

Congratulations!!!

What did I tell ya man, things happen for a reason. Last year you were meant to take rigging instead and look at you know, you are about to start PIXAR I, and are a kickass rigger to boot. I can't wait to see you progress now as an animator. No one desereved to get in more then you, way to go Landis!

As for the WORM Project. Man has it been a blast working with you and Roger. And now that I've seen some of the early renders...it's even better then I had hoped. Thanks again for making me part of it. Keep it up man.

Thanks man! That really means alot. Yeah...the WORM project has been awesome! I am totally glad that all 3 of us have had the priveledge of working with one another. The school can only teach you so much...tactics for working within a team environment can be outlined within a book but you just cant put a price on what you take away from actually having taken that journey with other people who share the same passion.

Oh man! Congrats Landis!

I think you're living out the dream of every CG person out there, a class with the masters =)

I think you deserved it though. Since I first saw your work you have only consistently improved. There seems to be no stopping you! ^_^

Shannon,

LOL! Yeah, I guess your right...technically I am now in Disney 1. I think the merger will prove itself to be a good thing for both parties. I am looking forward to seeing how it all pans out ESPECIALLY for the films each company currently has stewin' on the back burner (i.e. Toy Story 3...will PIXAR in fact have a hand in this one afterall?).

smerity,

Thanks man! Yeah I am truly lucky. There isnt a day that I dont wake up with a smile on my face (unless ofcourse if you count those mornings that I wake up, rub my eyes, and stagger over to the computer only to find that my computer rendered out the wrong camera all night long while I was sleeping). As for deserving it...thank you for thinking that. Hopefully all the work that has gone into the WORM will entertain you and others out there who enjoy this stuff...and if we (the WORM team) are REALLY lucky than maybe those who could care less how much work went into it will enjoy it as well.

Hey Landis,

That's great news! Congratulations! I hope all is going well for you. Sorry, I haven't had time to visit your site much, I've been very busy with school myself. I now know more anatomy than I thought I would. I also found out that I'll have to learn even more. =\

^_^

Cya 'round!
