Environment Tests + Push Update
Its starting to get exciting. Roger was kind enough to share a low poly version of the environment he has been working on so that I could get started with some of the camera moves, lighting, sky insertion and other goodies. So, heres a rough version (without the plants, leaves, wildlife, et.) of the environment WITH the sky and lighting as of now.

Now, before I go I would like to leave you all with a quick update of Inch pushing the apple.

This weekend I plan to integrate the results from my subsurface scattering studies into the above render. I also need to repaint my UV's (they got lost along the way somehow...BAH!). As always keep checkin' in.

Hey Landis =)
Congratulate the guy, these environments are looking pretty darn good so far! lol
It's a wonderful setting though, instead of pushing the hyper-realistic style everyone seems to be going for today, this has a really wonderful stylised reality going for it!
Just wondering, are you using the sky images for the lighting, something like HDRI?
Anyway, nice progress, really looking forward to this thing man! =)
Looking sweeeeeeet. I agree, the whole thing is starting to get its own style going that is really looking nice. I like the little guy next to the apple a lot. Its all coming together. Keep up the nice work, oh yeah, I think we're hiring at Chevy's if you wanna step away from the computer and work at an awesome restaurant with me and Roger. I'm so jealous.
Smerity,
Thanks man! My buddy thanks you too!
As for the lighting I am using a combination of the new and the old...kind of an HDRI hybrid if you will. Basically a lightdome like the one I used on the AIRMAN + an ambient occlusion pass with color tweaks that match the sky backdrop I made. Its working out pretty nice. I am very happy with it which is rare. When shes done it'll be nice I promise (ROGER GET THOSE PLANTS DONE).
Slippy,
LOL! Nice. Chevy's...mmmmmm...chips and salsa. That stuff is like crack! No seriously, the day I posted this and you and Roger called I nearly was rolling on the floor crying I was laughing so hard. As soooon as I hit submit to post the updates you guys were like "so whatcha' werkin' on hmmmm?" I love the constructive competition between all of us. Anna laughs the way all of us are. I am like..."great modeling there Slip"...then come home and slave in front of Maya like a 3D whore till the sun comes up. LOL. It keeps us all going. Hey man we need to get together this week for another briefing at my place. Bring the training materials and I will try and feed you guys this time. Let me know.
Don't you ever do anything else besides 3D? Do you have a real life outside of Maya? HAHAHA j/k. =P
Lookin good man! I see on this last update that you even cut a few more notches into that leaf (or maybe it's just cuz it's a different angle). It's all lookin great. I also like the low-poly environment too.
Well, keep up the great work.
hey landis,
dunno if you'd renember me from Digit forums ages ago but thats not important. Awesome to see that maya is working out so great for you. Not suprising though after what you managed to get out of Blender :) Anyway Inch is looking awesome, so all crit is for small details, like, onh is neck you can kind of see a sort of join like crease. Possibly he could have his back put into it more and less from the head. Possibly you could give inch and more over all diagonal slant. Nice to see you keepign the good work up and it's only improving,
HyperV
Thanks for the feedback guys! Believe it or not HoLyCoW but yes I actually do have a life outside of 3D which usually ties back into 3D in some way, shape, or form. LOL. No seriously, I just got back from vacation a week ago which also explains why I havent posted anything. Should have something by the end of the week (tossing around an online class as well right now).
Hypervoxels, ofcourse I remember you! Thanks for the tips regarding the effort from Inch, I plan to arrange him in more of a "laboring" pose soon...just trying to clean up some other odds and ends now (digital housekeeping) but I will definately take your crits into account. Well, back to my online class then more with Inch. Anyways, thanks again for checkin' in guys I really appreciate it! Also, if any of you are hittin' up Siggraph let me know!
Landis man! Long time no update, are you still on hols? lol
Anyway, this is off-topic, so feel free to do whatever with it!
I know completely understand your love of the PSP! I have one myself, and even though its only been two weeks, I swear it's like grafted to me (which was extremely difficult when I had to take it off at the airport, the security guys were about to pounce on me)...
Not only are the games sweet, it's absolutely awesome to be able to listen to MP3s, suddenly have someone want to see a movie on mine (I have The Incredibles and I Robot on it atm)! Ah!
BTW, have you tried any of the homebrew stuff? I have a PSP Version 1.5 with a gigabyte memory stick, and the homebrew stuff rules! I have Doom, Quake 2 and even a SNES emulator which lets me play Super Mario Kart! ^_^
Anyway, looking forward to your next update mate, keep us informed!
Smerity,
Yeah, working on a quick little piece for school using the apple from my worm short. It hops around and lands on its "head". I will be posting it soon.
As for the PSP man I love that thing! I have encoded a bunch of training videos (maya/animation)just incase I get stuck somewhere...its great! Unfortunately I have 1.52 OS so I cant use the homebrew...I TOTALLY wanted quake too! I didnt find out about the whole homebrew scene until AFTER I had updated to the latest version...I am pretty bumbed out about it to say the least. The only thing that keeps me going is the fact that I can still surf the web...I heard that there is like 3 homebrew browsers out right now and they are based off of the mozilla (firefox)engine. Pretty cool! Anyways, I should have some updates soon (tonite or tommorow) so keep checking in.
