WORM PUSH + Leaf Update!
Hey all! I am pretty happy with the apple at this point. I "fixed" the leaf, however, I am sure that I will fine tune it quite a bit more later, anyways, heres what I got as of now...
In other news I have begun..."The Push". After many, many, MANY drafts on paper I have unleashed the ultimate chore onto the little guy....thats right...I hate to say it but he's finally behind the boulder.

Anyways, I hope you all enjoy it. I should have some more stuff for all of you either later tonite or tommorow morning. Man, its amazing how much stuff I get done inbetween semesters!

Looking better each time. I agree, with the semester at an end its so much fun gettting some "real" work done. I can't wait to see the little guy in action.
Thanks man. I plan to get cranking on some depth of field as well...not that its a priority but because its fun and I can. LOL. Nothing like a bit of candy every once in a while (this is where if I were animating I would play with some motion blur settings). Some people slack off once in a while...well...this is my way of slacking...toying around with features that large studios see as a crutch in student work. LOL. No seriously, I sit on my hands for quite a while before poking around inside the "bells and whistles" section of Maya. Listen how defensive I am getting...lol. Too funny.
This is absolutely beginning to terrify me =) It's fantastic stuff man, you're progressing so quickly! ^_^
On all the 'candy', remember that this is your pet project, your prime concern is to get out the exact vision that you want, not necessarily speed. Still though, for any houses that do ads or weekly shows, it's good you keep the 'candy' in check =P
BTW, on motion blur, this is off-topic, but I always wandered why no-one is doing motion blur by OpenGL etc... Really, when you're animating, you don't really care about the surfaces being accurate, but motion blur can change resulting animation immensely!
So, say your video card can render 16 frames of your scene a second, instead of doing 16 frames per second, you could then use it like rendering and have a 8xmotion blur, meaning two motion blurred frames a second, a 120 frames a minute or about 5 seconds of animation... That's my babble anyway =P
Smerity,
Yeah, I try to think of it that way. One my buddies at school heard that its prety much common knowledge around the studios that before you get a job (whether your in school or self taught) thats the time to really explore and have fun because as soon as you get into the "real" world its all about the deadline. I try and keep focused by desciplining myself using deadlines I have set for my self based off of my little pipeline here at home just so I dont get too spoiled but I am sure its nothing like what goes on in todays studios...lol.
As for the motion blur, that would be sweeet! You wouldnt believe this but I was wondering the same thing just the other day. I mean, I find it crazy some of the things that CAN be done via openGL in realtime (i.e. hardware texturing) so why not MBLUR and DOF!? I know that might sound pretty far fetched to some out there but I am with you man. Someday all of this render time stuff will be a thing of the past...no more going to bed and waking up the next day, staggering to the computer monitor to see my render...thats actually kind of weird if you think about it, we only accept it because thats just the way it is...not because it makes sense (this is where an old timer jumps in and starts reeemin' me about how easy the industry has it now days). LOL. But no seriously, that is a great idea, and most consumer gaming cards could handle that I would think.
