WORM Anatomy Video!
Hey everyone! I've been VERY busy with finals but I thought I'd take the time to quickly touch bases with all of you. The WORM's rig is almost finshed and I am working on blocking out a take right now! Its pretty cool to actually breathe life into the little guy after all the hard work I put into creating him. Anyways, the take is a part of my final so that wont be done till next week but until then I have uploaded a short video (MPEG 4/ 2.8 mb) regarding the rig as well as the WORM's anatomy.
Click here for WORM Anatomy video.
As a side note, I have quite decent pile of new stuff to share with all of you that I plan to upload as soon as finals are over (next week), so, as always keep checking in.

Very nice Landis. Did you have to model all the bones and muslces yourself or did you use MuscleTK and does MuscleTK do the bones and muscles for you?
Thanks! Yes I had to model the bones. I did so to get an idea of how my character was truly moving...oh and because its fun! I plan to do it for all of my characters from here on out. When I go back and view the animation with just the skeleton I quickly see that the hips arnt twisting enough here or the spine isnt compressing enough there.
Now, the muscles on the other hand are just NURBS tubes that you draw one by one, so, you still have to go back and sculpt them to fit your character (like in the case where my characters forearms flareout) as well as know WHERE to draw them in the first place. Basically muscleTK is cool but as with most computer shtuff its only as good as the user. It WOULD be nice if the system did it all for you but then again every character is so different that I am not sure if it would be worth all of the effort to incorporate such a feature. Plus I learned alot by having to go and apply my anatomy studies to a "real" creature but in a suggestive manner (antropomorphic worm). Its funny, some people say "hey cool...he's got anatomy", while others say "worms dont have bones you know"...thats when I usually say "yeah...they dont have arms either and somebody should tell Walt that mice cant talk"! LOL. Too funny. Anyways, I am glad that you like it. If your interested in muscle TK I will say this, the supplemental info that comes with it is PROBABLY more valuable than the toolkit itself! All the "muscles" do is allow for custom attributes to be keyed on the tubes themselves such as jiggle and bulge on a "muscle" by muscle basis. It also knows to squash as opposed to stretch the tube depending on whether it is a muscle or a tendon (user definable). Its pretty nice....influence objects on steroids basically.
Insanely immaculate anatomy there Landis, great work! lol
I really can't wait to see the final product, it seems as if your talent is gaining exponentially with every passing moment!
And about the guy who complained about 'worm anatomy', the same thing was said about Finding Nemo.
'They can't move their pectoral fins like that,'
'You know, fish can't talk either...'
=)
(btw, sorry for the slow response, it took me a while to download the file, am on 56k and forgot to retry after a failure)
Good luck man, keep posting, and posting, and posting, and *utters into oblivion*
Regards, Stephen Merity
Thanks smerity! I have developed a passion for anatomy here at the academy...I am a bit of a junky. I really enjoy creating life from nothing but in a correct manner...I know that sounds kind of strange but I really dont know how to describe it. I have learned that there is a bit of accuracy to everyones dreams...its just a matter of being able to extract enough information to build from.
